The new DIN regime starts on 1 November 2021.

What is a DIN?

A director ID is a unique identifier, like an individual’s tax file number. The purpose is to verify a director’s identity, preventing false or fraudulent director identities.

When? If you are an eligible officer, you must apply for a DIN as follows:

  • Directors as at 31 October 2021 – applications must be made by 30 November 2022.
  • Between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022 – within 28 days of appointment.
  • From 5 April 2022 – prior to appointment.

Where? Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS) at www.abrs.gov.au.

How? Via the new registry above and with a MyGovID.
